MEDICINE PLANTS - Published in 1996 by the Ulkatcho First Nation
of Anahim Lake this book shares the extensive knowledge of
plants passed down for centuries by the Ulkatcho elders.
Contributing to the book are Sage Birchwater
(writer/researcher), Dr. Richard Hebda (Royal BC Museum), Dr.
Nancy Turner (University of Victoria ethnobotanist), and Michele
Kay (researcher) and two dozen Ulkatcho elders. The Ulkatcho
people are an Athapaskan-speaking First Nation whose traditional
territory on the western edge of the Chilcotin Plateau is one of
the most ecologically diverse regions of British Columbia. The
knowledge of plants by Ulkatcho elders
reflects of this rich diversity.
