GREASE – This 30 minute video
production is Al Elsey’s masterpiece. Converted to video format
from16 mm film footage taken in 1963, Elsey's narrative takes
the viewer through the whole process of oolichan grease
production. He shows the fish being caught in the conical shaped
nets, then dumped into dug out canoes, and left to rot for ten
days in "stink boxes." Then he shows the partially decomposed
fish being boiled up and the rendering of the crystal clear
grease. This archival production is a heritage gem.
