Silyas Saunders is a member of the Nuxalk First Nation of
Bella Coola on British Columbia’s west coast. He turned to carving at age 60 and quickly gained
recognition , awarded the prestigious
Native Artist Fellowship from the National Museum of the
American Indian in New York City. The short film provides insight into
the life of a traditional Nuxalk artist.
Shluk, Nuxalk for dried salmon, is a culinary delicacy. Learn how the mouth watering Shluk is made by cutting Bella
Coola spring salmon into thin slices and drying them in a smoke
